Paul Leon Fatout, Prof. Emeritus at Purdue University, was born and reared in Indianapolis. He lived in Pullman, WA, and Penn State, PA, before coming to West Lafayette in 1929. He was a graduate of Purdue University and received his master's degrees from Pennsylvania State College and Columbia University. On Oct. 23, 1933, he was married to Roberta Smith at West Lafayette, Indiana.
Prof. Fatout, who taught English at Purdue for 38 years before retiring in 1965, formerly taught at Washington State University in Pullman, and Penn State College. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta, Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa fraternities.
He was a well-known author of books on American literature. Among his books were "Mark Twain in Virginia City", "Mark Twain on the Lecture Circuit", "Mark Twain Speaking", and "Mark Twain Speaks for Himself".
